The Guidelines aim to provide alcohol and other drug (AOD) workers with evidence-based information to assist with the management of co-occurring AOD and mental health conditions. To navigate through the Guidelines, you can start by clicking an icon below. To build your own custom set of Guidelines, please click the “Downloads” icon.
The Guidelines are formatted in three parts:
- Part A addresses the nature and extent of co-occurring AOD and mental health conditions, and discusses why it is important for AOD services to respond. Information regarding the prevalence, guiding principles, and classification of disorders are contained in Part A.
- Part B contains information regarding responding to co-occurring conditions, including holistic health care, trauma-informed care, identifying co-occurring conditions, assessing risk, coordinating care, approaches to co-occurring conditions, managing and treating specific disorders, and worker self-care.
- Part C addresses specific population groups.
In addition, the links below provide access to useful resources and techniques which are contained in the appendices, as well as worksheets that can be given to clients.
