It does not attempt to provide detailed information relating to the implementation of these approaches, but rather, an overview of the options available. Where appropriate, readers are referred to existing literature and resources for more detail about the use of particular interventions. AOD workers are likely familiar with traditional psychological and pharmacological approaches to the treatment of co-occurring conditions. Other approaches include ECT, self-help groups, e-health interventions, physical activity, and complementary and alternative therapies. It is essential to consider the whole person and accept that one approach is not necessarily going to work for all clients. Different clients present with unique biological, psychological, and sociodemographic backgrounds and it is important to take these factors into consideration when deciding on an approach, or combination of approaches, with the client.
